Directional drilling: expertise and capabilities have FTS Resolve ready for the rapidly growing demand
According to a report from research company Grand View Research, the global horizontal directional drilling (HDD) market is expected to reach $14.95 billion by 2022. While the HDD market in Australia is currently being driven by significant projects in the telecommunications sector, of which FTS plays a key role, being able to service the rapidly growing demand for utilities (gas, water and electricity distribution) has FTS well placed for the future.
Continuing to scale drilling operations and service key projects
Beginning in 2014, FTS has seen the continuous evolution of its drilling capabilities. Our senior drill team – led by Simon Norton, Paul Cooper, and Daniel Britton – has over 30 years combined industry experience. And their skills and expertise have been integral to the growth of our capabilities.
Our drilling setup includes all-terrain drill units capable of servicing projects large and small. This equipment enables us to execute challenging drilling operations in all ground conditions. Quality equipment and leadership experience helps us to avoid common hazards, such as underground assets, and operate in limited space, like in residential zones.
Our adaptable setup and skills have enabled us to deliver services on:
- The National Broadband Network (NBN) project for multiple delivery partners
- Road and rail enhancements for major construction companies and government bodies, such as the Streamlining Hoddle Street project
- Virtual private networks for independent agencies and utility companies.
Drilling case study: Partnering with Visionstream on the NBN project
Our work on the NBN project is the perfect example of how FTS has provided its turnkey services. By utilising drilling assets, we were able to place conduits into the ground for our hauling team to then haul cable – followed by our splicers who facilitated the connection. A project such as this could utilise multiple contractors, however FTS – along with partner Visionstream – were able to provide a complete turnkey solution.
Evolving our capabilities to meet industry demand
Whilst FTS continues to service its valued clients, we’re also active in pitching our services outside of the telecommunications environment, with the aim of servicing the gas, water and electrical sectors. Our proven, highly skilled team utilise the best available equipment; we know that we would be a significant asset to any organisation looking to expand their horizontal directional drilling capabilities.
Turnkey services set FTS Resolve apart
While expanded drilling capabilities see our service offering grow, our current and prospective clients will still receive the same expert level of service and skilled personnel that has defined us. And as a true turnkey service provider, not only do we now offer greater drilling capacity, we’re also able to service the electrical, hauling and project management aspects of almost any project.
